The following is a guest post by Daphne Francis, an article contributor from Group Health Insurance. Thanks, Love! :)

If you’ve got curves, put away your baggy black clothes, and listen up! There is such a thing as plus-sized fashion, and you too can be a dynamic fashionista. Just because you’re curvy doesn't mean you're sentenced to a lifetime of wearing unappealing and matronly clothes. With all the plus-sized fashion myths floating around, it’s hard to know what works and what doesn’t. It’s time to stop paying attention to the following fashion myths and give your wardrobe a makeover.

Curvy Girls Can Only Wear Black
Not True! Not only can we were bright colors, but prints aren’t off limits either. It’s all about how you wear the colors. When worn correctly, bright colors and prints can flatter your body just as well as black. Try to stick to about three colors per outfit. Use the colors to make you appear slimmer by positioning the bright color either on the sides or in the middle. This will give an illusion of slimness and contour, while allowing you to wear any color you want.

Skinny Jeans are for Skinny Girls
False! Curvy ladies everywhere are accentuating their bodies with a hot pair of skinny jeans. With more women designing fashion, the options are literally endless. Put away your mom jeans and get you a pair of skinny jeans or leggings. Pair them with kimono sleeves or a tunic top. Also, finishing them off with a heel will elongate your leg and leave you feeling and looking fabulous.

Big Girls Need to Cover Up
Not even close! Tank tops are not your enemy. Make sure your tank fits well and if you feel a bit self-conscious, add a cropped jacket. The layered look is in, so go crazy! Just don’t feel like your tank tops should never see the light of day.

The Baggier, the Better
Absolutely not! While self-conscious curvy girls may feel more comfortable wearing baggy clothes to cover up the curves, they actually make you look bigger. Rather than curvy, you end up just looking a bit like a balloon. Show off your beautiful curves; we weren’t made to be stick people. If you want to hide your belly, accentuate your other assets. A trapeze top is fitted at the top but fans out under the bust. This will hide your middle while showing off your upper body.

Dressing Up a Curvy Body is a Disaster
Are you kidding? Every woman can look fabulous in the right dress. A-line shapes, empire waists, and wrap styles were invented for curves. They will accentuate all the right places without drawing attention to all the wrong places. Give these options a try and find the right dress style for your body.

It’s important not to get stuck in your comfort zone. Wearing baggy t-shirts and jeans is okay for a lazy Saturday at home, but it’s absolutely possible for curvy women to look fantastic in fashionable clothes. Take a friend shopping with you, and try on some different styles. While you might feel uncomfortable at first, trust your friend to tell you the truth. You just might create a whole new you!
